Why Bend your Knees when Lifting Weights?

You've probably heard it many times: bend your knees when lifting weights. In this short article I'm explaining why it's important to bend your knees when working out with weights.

First of all, bending your knees will reduce the stress put on your lower back when you do weight lifting by transferring some of the load to your knees. And this not only applies to exercises such as deadlifts, but also to standing exercises like bicep curls, presses, upright rows, front raises or high pulls just to name a few.

Secondly, bending your knees while exercising concentrates your centre of gravity and helps you stay in balance at all stages of the repetition. You don't want to get out of balance with 100kg on your shoulders, do you?

Always slightly bend your knees when doing standing exercises.
